Tonsillectomy Best Practice Recommendations Published – 01/08/21

The SW Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network ENT Clinical Working Group has collaborated to agree best practice recommendations for regional tonsillectomy pathways. The group decided to work collaboratively to share existing and agree best practice with regards to this high volume patient pathway. The group agreed to focus on shared improvements to the tonsillectomy pathway as there were notable differences in day case rates across the region and clinical colleagues felt it would be valuable to come together to review the latest research and evidence and agree best practice recommendations that all providers will aspire to deliver over the coming months.

The core network team worked to facilitate the discussions and collate agreed best practice and will now work with colleagues across the region to review and support teams to deliver these pathway recommendations across the region.

The best practice recommendations can be viewed here – please note these recommendations are not meant to replace local clinical protocols or pathways and are aimed at supporting regional collaboration and service improvements across the South West Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network. Colleagues are welcome to review the documents and feedback or queries are always welcome
