The forum have agreed to meet quarterly. Our first meeting was in October 2021 where the current status of all working groups and planned developments for the South West Surgery in Children ODN were presented.
Priorities identified for nurse forum discussion and development:
(i) child and carer experience feedback for children within a surgical pathway -annual survey for pre-assessment established. Further patient experience surveys to be agreed to understand patient and families surgical experience
(ii) Surgical education and competency for nurses/AHP’s – SW annual surgical nursing and AHP study day established.
The Clinical Nursing Forum meet quarterly to facilitate collaboration and shared learning. The group undertook an nurse education survey which led to the development of a Nurse Education Day held in September 2022; more information on the education day and to listen to some of the session provided please follow this link. A further study day in 2023 built on the subjects highlighted in the education survey as important to nurses in SW and also from feedback from the previous study day in September 2022. Quality Improvement
Our recent meeting in January 2023 focussed on an introduction to Quality improvement methodology and it’s uses in delivering local services that are evidence based and high quality for our patients.
