Best Practice Recommendations: Adenotonsillectomy Day Case Pathway

The SW Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network ENT Clinical Working Group has collaborated to agree best practice recommendations for regional tonsillectomy pathways. The group worked collaboratively to share existing pathways and agree best practice for this high volume patient pathway, published in August 2021. The group agreed to focus on the tonsillectomy pathway as there were notable differences in day case rates across the region – clinical colleagues felt it would be valuable to come together to review the latest research and evidence and agree best practice recommendations that all providers across the region will aspire to deliver over the coming months.

The core network team worked with members to facilitate discussions and collate agreed best practice, and will now review, audit, and support teams to deliver these pathway recommendations across the region.

Please note – these recommendations are not meant to replace local clinical protocols
or pathways, and are aimed at supporting regional collaboration and service
improvements across the South West Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network.
Colleagues are welcome to review the document and feedback is always welcome.
