Educational Resources & Shared Learning: General Surgery & Urology

A library of training videos covering key paediatric surgical procedures aimed at paediatric, general, and core surgical trainees has been developed to enhance skills and confidence. The videos have been created by Miss Kate Bradshaw, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon for Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, and the University Hospitals Bristol & Weston Medical Illustration Team – they are available to South West colleagues on our NHS Futures Platform, and teams outside of the region via the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons website and the National Online Training Platform.

Please note: You will need a Vimeo account to view these videos due to the surgical content. Setting one up is quick and easy, and you will be prompted to do so when you click to watch

In January 2022 the network facilitated a Management of Surgically Placed Feeding Tubes in Children education session led by colleagues from Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. The session included feedback from a regional survey carried out to understand current pathways and practice which was delivered by Catherine Bradshaw (Consultant Surgeon), and presentations on Gastrostomy and Gastrojejunal tube types, insertions and indications by Catherine Bradshaw, and Gastrostomy and Gastrojejunal tube care and common complications by Rebecca Swinbank & Kate Wills (Gastrostomy Clinical Nurse Specialists). NHS colleagues can watch the recording of the session
on the SW SIC NHS Futures platform.

Since the SW SIC ODN General Surgery & Urology Working Group began in 2021, a number of clinicians from across the region have presented audits and pathways from their local providers to share information and learning between Trusts.
