Best Practice Recommendations for Paediatric Fasting Guidance have been developed collaboratively by members of the The SW Surgery in Children Pre-Assessment Working Group and were published in July 2025. This guidance advises on children who are being considered for procedures in organisations across the SW SIC ODN region who require general anaesthetic. The core network team worked with members to facilitate discussions and collate agreed best practice, and will now review, and support teams to deliver these pathway recommendations across the region.
Please note – these recommendations are not meant to replace local clinical protocols
or pathways, and are aimed at supporting regional collaboration and service
improvements across the South West Surgery in Children Operational Delivery Network.
